Peer Learning Walks - Leveraging the Rigor Walk Structure While Including ALL Teachers Within ALL Classrooms
Wednesday July 17, 2024 9:55am - 10:55am CDT

Our session will begin with our "Why" as well as how the current structure of "Peer Learning Walks" was creatively and intentionally designed and promoted by our school-based instructional leadership teams, in collaboration with our Network ISL, as a lever to provide reflective job-embedded professional learning for our teachers. During this session, we will share the nuts and bolts of how we utilize the structure of Peer Learning Walks to visit ALL classrooms with ALL teachers, providing a relevant and inclusive next step from our Network Rigor Walks that embraces our school priorities.  We will address some of the initial obstacles including time, scheduling, as well as the human aspects of teacher apprehension and vulnerability.  Most importantly we will share what we have learned as well as some of the unexpected celebrations during our journey over this past school year.

HERE (coming soon) are our Google Slides from our SLI Session.

And, please feel free to click HERE to share any questions that you might have regarding our session or the Peet Learning Walk process or structure.

Network 15 invites school leaders to join us in reflecting on our data-informed journey, a change process that brought us from the unenviable position of having the most suspensions of any high school network to the one with the greatest decrease.
Beyond the practical outcomes of our study, we seek to share our process of using both qualitative and quantitative data to more deeply understand trends in our school leaders’ decisions and their impact on students. Our case study explores, in particular, the use of OSS for students with 4-14s (drug use and possession) and the outcomes for students with and without OSS.

Tier 3 Behavior Support Plans (BSP)
Wednesday July 17, 2024 1:25pm - 2:25pm CDT
TBA
Often, when a student is engaging in challenging behavior, the root cause can be connected to a social-emotional skill deficit. Behavior Support Plans establish a universal, district-wide protocol for supporting the social-emotional development of learners who may require Tier 3 programming. BSPs promotes the inclusivity of students within each educational setting by providing educators with preventative strategies and evidence-based approaches to proactively support students who may be demonstrating higher-rates of challenging behavior, while simultaneously ensuring educators have structured approaches to effectively respond to behaviors.

Peer Learning Walks - Leveraging the Rigor Walk Structure While Including ALL Teachers Within ALL Classrooms
Wednesday July 17, 2024 1:25pm - 2:25pm CDT
TBA

HERE (link coming soon) are our Google Slides from our SLI Session

Developing Pathways for Students to Earn Early College and Career Credits: A Case Study of Curie High School
Wednesday July 17, 2024 1:25pm - 2:25pm CDT
TBA
Curie High School is the third largest school in CPS and leads the district in the number of students who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch and leads the district in the number of students who are English Language Learners.  Students enroll at Curie through various GoCPS programs including Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), Arts, Career and Technical Education (CTE), and International Baccalaureate (IB).  Students from the neighborhood also enroll at Curie.  This presentation focuses on how Curie more than doubled its students earning Dual Credit Early College and Career Credits (ECCC) from SY22 to SY23 while maintaining or increasing the types of classes and opportunities.  This led to an all-time high ECCC rate for Curie during SY23 with additional opportunities for growth in SY24 and into SY25.  The presentation will share how data was used strategically to create the opportunities and also develop the growth mindset of staff.

SY25 ILT Institute Whole Group Session w/ Zaretta Hammond
Thursday July 18, 2024 9:00am - 12:00pm CDT
We are looking forward to collaborating together as we build on our leadership and plan to strengthen the Instructional Core in your school. Our hope for ILT Institutes in SY25 is to support your ILT in 2 key areas:
Through Whole Team Learning that will be  dedicated to increasing the capacity of ILTs to implement and monitor progress toward their Instructional Core CIWP Priorities. During this time, ILTs will collaborate around defining, refining, & implementing Learning Cycles informed by practice and perspective data. In turn, this will serve to strengthen the conditions for teachers to facilitate engaging, rigorous and relevant instruction with high-quality curriculum to best meet the needs of the students they serve.
Choice Breakout Sessions that will support instructional leaders to deepen their impact through cultivating knowledge, skills, and expertise in the Instructional Core Focus Areas that most align with their school's professional learning plans as leaders of teams.
Together, these learning opportunities will support ILTs in leading their schools to continue their progress toward the CPS Instructional Core Vision, the district's commitment to a culturally sustaining and responsive education rooted in equity and centered on identity, relationships, and community.
A few reminders for our Summer Institute:
  1. Register for an afternoon breakout session using this form.

  2. Register on Learning Hub - To receive ISBE credit hour, please make sure you register on the Learning Hub: Course: SY25ILT1 Code: 69124
  3. Share with your ILTPlease fill out this registration form to sign up for afternoon breakout sessions. All ILT members should individually select a breakout area based on the team(s) they lead and potential learning cycle practice shifts.
  4. Review the District and your school’s PL Plans - ILTs will play a critical role in professional learning for your school in SY25. Please read through this overview to support you to internalize the full scope of the plan. Additionally, you can locate your school’s unique PL planning template here. Included in this document are a data analysis protocol and learning cycle builder to support your ILT to design impactful and relevant learning cycles.
  5. Prepare for Virtual Engagement: The Institute will be held virtually over Zoom (link TBA). ILTs have the option of meeting in person at their school to log in to the Zoom together. Alternatively, ILT members may attend remotely. If all ILT members will not be able to join in person, please set up a Google Meet link to allow your school team to collaborate virtually each time we pause for ILT discussions and work time.
Thank you! Please reach out to jbull@cps.edu with any questions. Looking forward to a great day of learning together!
